Privacy Policy
Last updated: June 14, 2026
Drift Catcher is built around one promise: your focus data is yours, and it stays on your Mac. This policy explains exactly what that means.
The short version
- Drift Catcher collects no personal data and sends no analytics or telemetry to us or anyone else.
- All AI runs on your device. Screen content never leaves your Mac.
- The only network connection the app ever makes is a one-time download of the on-device AI model (on macOS versions without Apple Intelligence). That download sends no information about you.
What the app accesses, and why
- Active window title (via Screen Recording permission). To tell whether you're on task, Drift Catcher reads the title of the window you're currently using (for example, a browser tab's page title). It does not capture, record, store, or transmit any screen images or content. The title is used in the moment to classify "on-topic vs. off-topic" and is stored only in your local session history on your Mac.
- Notifications (optional). Used only to let you know a focus session has ended.
What is stored, and where
- Your sessions, drift events, and AI reflections are stored locally on your Mac using Apple's on-device database (SwiftData). They are never uploaded.
- The Insights screen is computed entirely from this local data. You can export a snapshot (JSON or Markdown) manually if you choose to — the app never sends it anywhere on its own.
- You control retention in Settings (keep 7 days, 30 days, or forever) and can delete all data at any time.
The one network request
On macOS 26 with Apple Intelligence, no download is needed. On earlier macOS versions, Drift Catcher downloads a small open-source language model (Gemma 3) once, from Hugging Face, into the app's private container. This request downloads model files to your Mac and includes no personal data, account, or usage information. After that, all inference is local and offline.
No tracking, no third parties
- No advertising, no analytics SDKs, no crash-reporting services, no trackers.
- No data is shared with third parties because no data is collected.
Children's privacy
Drift Catcher does not collect data from anyone, including children. It is rated 4+.
